In the past we have been instructing all our customers to use the LaserWriter IINTX PPD or the DocuTech 135 PPD when creating postscript files for use on the DocuTech. This has been a problem in the past for many of our customers for several reasons:
1. The DocuTech 135 driver was not readily available for many customers.
2. Xerox had not fully tested the DocuTech 135 driver with Windows 95.
3. The LaserWriter IINTX PPD, although very common and widely available, does not support many features of the DocuTech (tabloid paper size and 600 dpi resolution).
Due to these major drawbacks we began our search and believe we have found a simpler solution for our customers. The Linotronic 200 PPD, although not created for the DocuTech, not only takes full advantage of the features of the DocuTech 135, but is readily available on Windows 95 software.
Below are instructions for you on how to create a new printer to be used when creating PostScript files in Windows 95.
Adding a printer to create PostScript files in Windows 95:
If you have the Windows 95 software
1. In the Start menu under Settings, select Printers.
2. Double click the Add printer icon and click Next to begin the installation.
3. Select Local printer (if given the option) and click Next. If not, skip to step 4.
4. In the Manufacturers window select Linotronic and in the Printers window select Linotronic 200 and then click Next.
5. Select File as your desired port and click Next.
6. Type a name for the printer, perhaps something with "to file" in the name for your reference and click Next.
7. Select NO when asked to print a test page (since you are not physically connected to this printer) and click Finish.
8. You will be prompted to insert the Windows 95 CD or floppy that came with your computer.
When the computer is finished copying, your new icon will appear in your printers window. For best results, select this new printer as your default printer before creating your documents (especially when using versions of Microsoft Word 6.0 and earlier).
If you do not have the original Windows software:
A link to the necessary PPDs to be used when creating PostScript files to be supplied to Goodway. The above steps can be followed for installation of any printer driver. The Linotronic 200 should be used when creating documents intended for the DocuTech. The Linotronic 330 should be used when creating documents intended for film output
