1. Be careful with very fine lines (hairlines). When printing to a high resolution imagesetter (Goodway generally uses a setting of 2400 dpi), very fine lines are rendered more accurately than on a laser printer. This can produce surprising and undesired results. Hairlines, for example, will be fainter (if they appear at all) when printed to film. For best results, we recommend you avoid using hairlines (i.e., any line width thinner than 0.5 pt.) in the design of your publication.
2. Screened areas in your publication may also vary in density when printed from different printers. There are several variables involved in the production of the screens: characteristics of the printer/imagesetter, characteristics of the ink/toner, characteristics of the paper, etc. Because of the inherent variables involved in the process, we recommend avoiding screens lighter than 10%.
Due to the printing characteristics of the DocuTech 135, Xerox recommends that documents with screens printing to this DocuTech be increased by 10-15% to obtain the desired results.
Note: Providing hard copy of your publication will give us a guide in determining the screen values desired.
